Program Manager, Forest

Position Title: Program Manager, Forest 
Reports to: Practice Head, Forest
Location: Beijing
Main Responsibilities: 

Duties include, but not limited to:

Lead the portfolios and work with team members to develop and implement strategies, annual targets and work plans on GFTN, pulp & paper, NGP, in coordination with other staff, and contribute to the overall development of Forest Practice in WWF China;
Serve as a focal point of GFTN Global network and maintain the well communication with the GFTN managers of key network offices, and promote ‘Deforestation Free Supply Chain’ concept and practice for timber, pulp & paper and other key deforestation commodities, as a whole, in China;
As a liaison person of WWF New Generation Plantation Concept (NGP) platform, promote the sustainable plantation management, and facilitate the international and China study tours with key institutions, like China’s State Forestry Administration (SFA);
Build the collaboration with key industrial partners and Institutions in China and ensure responsible sourcing of raw material for timber, pulp & paper ect., in relation to the global initiative managed by WWF International;
Directly manages relationships with key partner corporates as delegated, incl. reviewing and providing technical supports to GFTN-China and CSAP participants and other corporate partners as required on purchasing policies, baseline assessments, action plans, and progress reports etc.
Overseas the ongoing public engagement campaigns in order to promote more sustainable consumption on forest products through, for instance, FSC certification and eco-labelling instruments to key companies and institutions and individual consumers;
Identifies and tracks emerging issues, new scientific information, policy developments, issues and trends in forest sectors, both in the Chinese context and globally, as well as developments within the WWF Network, and contribute to the formation of WWF China and GFTN-China strategy;
Implements corporate fundraising strategies to support the programmatic objectives of WWF-China Forest Practice and coordinates the submission of internal project progress reports, funding proposals, and donor reports;
Represents WWF-China at meetings, external workshops and conferences with external contacts on issues of relevance to the GFTN, CSPA, and NGP;
Engage with the Chinese government agencies to identify opportunities on illegal timber trade and responsible sourcing.
Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: 

Good knowledge of issues and trends in both the Chinese and global timber, pulp & paper sectors, and downstream buyer industries, esp. real state sector, in relation to responsible forest products sourcing, supply chain management, forest products trade and sustainable forest management;
A minimum of 10 years’ program or other working professional experience, cross business and non-government organization;
Experience with supply chain management, lifecycle analysis, and corporate social/environmental responsibility;
Success in advocating for and achieving programmatic objectives within the private sector;
A Bachelor’s or above degree in relevant field such as business, natural resources management, sustainability, supply chain management, or forestry. Skills and Abilities;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
Able to meet deadlines, and effectively prioritize under time constraints in the face of dynamic administrative, budget and political parameters;
Able to manage by objectives with considerable independence, competence and discretion;
High-level of interpersonal, diplomatic and negotiation skills;
Ability to interface and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners and organizations;
Excellent project administration, management and organizational skills and can manage complex partnership arrangements with tactful diplomacy;
Experience working within a large and complex organization across geographical, cultural and language boundaries.


Program Brief:

This is for Forests Practice under WWF China. WWF China set Forests Program since from 1996. Now it has extended its scope to forest restoration and rehabilitation, sustainable forest management, green forest products supply chain action, China’s responsible investment, and sustainable consumption, across China. The program manager will be on behalf of the practice and lead the key portfolio. 


Working Relationship: 

He/she needs to 
Internal:
Report to Forest Practice Head;
Interacts regularly with other practice and driver team of WWF-China, TRAFFIC, PED and PDD team;
Work with WWF Network staff including the Global Forest & Trade Network staff, WWF-International Pulp & Paper and NGP staff, and other WWF offices and programs.
External:
Frequent contact with non-staff individuals, including private sector, other NGOs, trade associations, certification systems, as well as government agencies.
