Communication Officer (Beijing)

Main Function:

The Communications Officer will be responsible for international media related work and press events, developing and assuring the quality of CPO level English-language communications products, and in charge of the English language website for CPO. S/he is also responsible for communications projects according to the annual strategy and work plan of the Communications Department.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Communications Officer will be responsible for international media related work and press events, and implementing media strategies in close cooperation with the Communications and Programme teams:
    • Develop media plan for specific projects/events;
    • Develop international media contacts and maintain strong media relationship;
    • Organize media club activities;
    • Organize press conferences and media trips;
    • Write/edit English language press releases, feature stories, etc., for internal and external uses.
    • Expand channels to increase exposure of WWF messages
    • Organize media training for communicators and conservation heads
  • Produce WWF Annual Report.
  • Edit and/or write communications newsletters and other CPO level publications.
  • Working with online team for English website strategy development, revamp and promotion. Overall in charge of English website content and quality control as well as its maintenance.
  • Identify, screen and manage native English speaking volunteers to assist in English language communications.
  • Manage communications projects according to Communications Department¡¯s strategy.
  • Qualifications:
  • University degree and above, preferably in journalism, communications or related field.
  • Excellent English language speaking and writing skills (at least 3 years professional journalism or other writing experience). Native English speaker as a plus. Experience of working with English language newspapers/magazines strongly preferred.
  • Excellent Chinese language speaking, reading and writing skills.
  • Acquaintance with international media landscape and good command of a wide range of communications tools.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, the ability to work in a multicultural environment, to work well in complex teams as well as to act on own initiative.
  • A strong interest in nature conservation and sustainable development issues.
  • Experience in website management as a plus.
