Position Functions:

Provides technical, coordination and implementation support to Yangtze Ecoregion Action Programme (the Yangtze EAP) of the WWF China Programme Office (WWF China), with emphasis on the planning and fundraising, coordination and integration, policy advocacy and communications at the basin level.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Programme and Project Planning
    1. Leads the development of the Yangtze EAP programme strategies for FY 2011 ¨C FY 2016 based on the WWF China Conservation and Business Plan and in alignment with priorities of WWF Global Programme.
    2. Facilitates and supports the formulation of the project concepts, plans and proposals under the Yangtze EAP based on the EAP priorities and strategies, to provide inputs to the fundraising.
  • Implementation
    1. Facilitates the operations of the Yangtze EAP by driving the workplan and budget development process on annual basis and consolidating and coordinating the joint and concerted actions across projects in the field
    2. Coordinates the implementation of joint activities at basin level by interacting with various field offices and programme teams in Beijing,
    3. Contributes to the geographic and thematic integration across the projects in the Yangtze towards the integrated results as per the Yangtze EAP priorities and strategies and facilitating the cooperation and information flow.
    4. Contributes to the policy advocacy and communications at the basin level towards bigger impact by consolidating the results across the Yangtze EAP and developing products and undertaking activities for upscaling and dissemination purposes.
    5. Contributes to the partnership strengthening and building of the Yangtze EAP.
  • M&E, learning and exchange
    1. Leads the completion of required progress and monitoring reports of the Yangtze EAP and drives the formulation of reports and monitoring sheets of the projects under the Yangtze EAP.
    2. Contributes to the development of knowledge products from the Yangtze EAP and drives the capacity building, learning and exchanging of various teams on priority issues and aspects.
    3. Analyzes technical issues related to the Yangtze EAP and provides inputs into the programmes and projects across the Yangtze.
    4. Serves as the secretary of the Yangtze Programme Implementation Agreement (PIA) steering committee and provides any needed support to the events of the PIA.
    5. Assist the Conservation Director for Biodiversity in routine programme and project management, also other tasks as required.
  • Working Relationship:
  • Internal: Interacts regularly with WWF China Conservation Director for Biodiversity, Deputy Conservation Directors, programme and field office leaders as well as operations, M&E, communications and fundraising staff.
  • External: Interacts regularly
  • Qualification:
  • Knowledge: The ideal candidate should have a Master's degree in natural resources management, environmental sciences, or applied economics, or a lower degree with equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Five years of experience in international development, conservation, and natural resources management, preferably in China. The individual should be competent in project and programme design, development, implementation and evaluation of conservation and development activities. Background in administration and management is essential. Experience with bilateral and multilateral agencies is also required.
  • Skills and Abilities: This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Fluency in Mandarin strongly preferred. Programme management experience is essential along with diplomatic skills and a good team spirit.
